DATE: 4th to 10th January | Ultimate North Island Trip - Northern/Eastern (7-Day Trip)
DAY 1 || AUCKLAND - WAIPOUA
After meeting in Auckland CBD, we head out to our first stop, the Kauri Museum - the largest undercover attraction in Northland, where we can learn about the history of the Kauri tree. Afterwards, we enjoy a picnic-style lunch before going to the Waipoua Forest. Here we can admire the largest remaining tract of native forest in Northland with ancient 2,000 years old Kauri trees. We explore the forest through the Tane Mahuta Walk before leaving to check-in at our hotel and have a traditional fish n’ chips dinner.

DAY 2 || PAIHIA - HOKIRANGA HABOUR
After breakfast, we leave in the morning for the Sand dunes of Hokianga Harbour. The area contains naturally made sand sculptures and massive canyons that are spiritually significant to local Maori. From here, we move to Paihia, the main touristic centre of the Bay of Islands. We enjoy a BBQ dinner before turning in for the night at our accommodation.

DAY 3 || PAIHIA - CAPE REINGA
Today, after breakfast, we embark on a day trip to Cape Reinga, where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific Ocean in a swirl of currents and according to Maori history, here is the place from where spirits leap to their ancestral homeland of Hawaiki. Here we visit the Ninety-mile beach, which offers a great number of optional activities to do, from surfing and swimming to walking down the 88 kilometres of beach. We enjoy a picnic lunch before moving to the northern part of the beach for the Te Paki sand dunes. Here we have the option to experience the thrill of bodyboarding down steep sand dunes. Tonight, we have a pizza dinner before going to bed.

DAY 4 || PAIHIA - KERIKERI
This morning, after breakfast, we embark on a sailing tour in the Bay of Islands while learning a bit of history about the Bay. There are plenty of optional activities to do here, from “see-through bottom” kayaking, snorkelling and so much more! Lunch is provided onboard. After our sea adventure, we leave for Kerikeri. Here we take on a bushwalk to a local waterfall that is picture-perfect before heading back to our accommodation for a pasta dinner night.
Includes: accommodation at YHA Paihia (or similar), breakfast, Bay of Islands sailing tour, lunch on board, Kerikeri visit, bushwalk to waterfall and pasta dinner.
DAY 5 || WHITIANGA
After breakfast, we take on a leisurely drive from our hostel in Paihia to our new destination in Whitianga. Enjoy the view of the wonderful Northland on the way! Upon arrival, we enjoy a BBQ dinner and we turn in for the night at our accommodation.

DAY 6 || WHITIANGA - COROMANDEL
Today, after breakfast, we drive to Cathedral Cove in Coromandel, where we take on a 40-minute walk to the beach. This beach was one of the filming locations of the movie ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian’ and now offers a variety of optional activities, from jet boating to see-through kayaks and more. Afterwards, we move to Hot Water Beach, where we can dig out our own personal hot water pool neat the ocean. We enjoy a picnic-style lunch and a BBQ dinner today.

DAY 7 || MT MAUNGANUI - AUCKLAND
After breakfast, we start our last day with a visit to Mt Maunganui, where we can walk the walking tracks of an extinct volcano or relax on white sand beach crowned “Best beach in New Zealand”. After a morning in Mt Maunganui, we enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and start our drive back to Auckland CBD where our journey ends. Thank you for coming with us on this great adventure!
